Mike Matos felt his calling to a career in funeral service at the age of 12 years old while attending a family member's funeral. At 19 years of age he accepted his first job with a local funeral home assisting people with pre-planning and burial insurance. In 2002, he earned his Certified Preplanning Consultant Designation by the National Funeral Directors Association.
After serving his apprenticeship, meeting the state's requirements, and passing the state exam, he became a licensed funeral director in 2004. Mike founded Vilonia Funeral Home after noticing that in today's economy many cannot afford high priced funerals and cremations.
Vilonia Funeral Home was established to provide the residents of Faulkner County and surrounding areas, affordable Funeral Service without compromising the quality of service you receive.
In addition to his funeral service career, Mike founded and pastored two churches. He attended Arkansas State University in Mountain Home where he studied Mortuary Science, and Phillips Community College of The University of Arkansas where he studied Business Management.
Mike is a member of Green Grove Lodge #107 in Conway, an active member of the Vilonia Lions Club where he currently serves as Club President, and a current board member of the Vilonia Chamber of Commerce. He looks for every opportunity to serve the local community.
Mike is married to the love of his life, and business partner, Faith. They have three children, MyKala,; Kohlman; and Loren.
Owner / Apprentice Funeral Director
Faith is the wife of Mike Matos and works at the funeral home part time as an Apprentice Funeral Director. She attended Phillips Community College of the University of Arkansas and obtained a degree in Business Administration and Business Office Technology.
Funeral Director / Embalmer
Glenda works part time at the funeral home as a funeral director. Glenda has a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture Business from Southern Arkansas University, and received her Funeral Director license in 2006. After graduating from Commonwealth Institute of Funeral Service she received her Embalmer license in 2014. She is married to Dr. Mike Beard and has two children, Elyse and Ethan, and one granddaughter, Avery Bolling. Glenda is a member of New Life Church in Conway.
Funeral Assistant / Pre-Planning Consultant
Sue is a native of Vilonia and comes to the Vilonia Funeral Home family with many years of experience serving the families of Faulkner County with Pre-Arrangements, Insurance, and Cemetery Property. She is married to Fred Smith, has three children, Jody, Kenny, Chelsey, and five grandsons. She is a member of the Conway Morning Rotary where she has served as President. Sue works full time as our pre-arrangement counselor, and assists as needed in other areas around the funeral home.
Funeral Director / After Care Services
Joyce works part time at Vilonia Funeral Home as a funeral director as well as assisting families with after the funeral services as an After Care Specialist. She attended the St. Louis Community College at Forest Park. where she obtained her funeral directing education. Joyce is licensed to serve families in Arkansas as well as the State of Texas. In addition to being a funeral director, she is a Certified Life Celebrant, A Grief Facilitator, and Certified Life Coach. James works at Vilonia Funeral Home as a Pre-Arrangement Counselor. His motto is "providing families with superior service before price."
James started working with families at Hale-South Funeral Home in Pine Bluff in 1983. He later worked with the original owners at Huson Funeral Homes in Central Arkansas.
Continuing to serve families he worked at the Arkansas State Medical Examiners office as a field investigator until his retirement. During his tenure there, he realized more than ever the need for everyone to have a pre-arrangement.
James resides in Beebe Arkansas.
Butch started his career in the Funeral Industry in 1985 when he was hired to manage Edgewood Memorial Park. One year later he purchased Edgewood from Charles Arnold. After many years in the Funeral Industry, he was forced to retire for health reasons.
In addition to helping families at the funeral home, Butch is a touring Gospel Singer with emphasis on Ministry. He has been privileged to appear on stage with some of the best Gospel Music Artist in the country. In addition, he has sung on 7 gospel music cruises, in two foreign countries, as well as most of the south eastern part of the United States.
Butch is a resident of Vilonia and is a member of Friendship Baptist Church.
