James Alvin Stewart

James Alvin Stewart, age 81, of Cabot, Arkansas passed away peacefully Tuesday, November 14,2023.

James was born in Lonoke. Arkansas on July 12, 1942 he was the 4th child and first son to Jack Erastus Stewart and Ruth Amelia Stewart.   He is preceded in death by his parents, sisters Dolly Strickland, Wilma Dreher, Nancy Gore and his brother Jack Robert Stewart. 

James served the United States Navy 1960-1964 as a machinist mate on the USS Ticonderoga and was stationed in San Diego.  In 1973 James became a Los Angeles County Sheriff until 1990 and medically retired and going into investigation fraud the remainder of his career.   During his Navy service time he met the love of his life Betty Jean Stewart, and they married March 14,1964 and had two children Lisa and John and had amazing life and marriage for 59 years.  In 2006 they retired and moved from California to Cabot, Arkansas to be closer to family.

James and Betty loved camping, off roading, wine tasting and traveling together with friends and family.  James was extremely passionate about genealogy and researching are families’ histories.

He is survived by his loving wife Betty Jean Cook Stewart, Daughter Lisa Maria Ellis (Benjamin), Son John Wesley Stewart (Jennifer), sister Patricia Stewart and brother Larry Stewart. His five grandchildren Jaclyn Thomas, Wesley Stewart, Justen Gentry, Matt Stewart and Tyler Stewart and 9 Great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Our family would like to say a special Thank You to all the doctors and nurses at Baptist Hospital of NLR that took such great care of him and their compassion.

Our father was the best example of a husband, father, brother, uncle and friend to so many.  My brother and I will be forever grateful to call him Dad. Dad you will be missed greatly every day. We love you! 

There will be no memorial service and the family will hold a private celebration in the spring.
