Ruby Joan Watkins of Stuttgart, died peacefully, surrounded by family on March 22, 2017.  Joan was born on April 9, 1935, in Humphrey.  She was the daughter of Moses and Ethel Samuels.  

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William Watkins; brothers, Harvey, Bill and Lonzo Samuels; sister Betty Alice Samuels; son, Phillip Watkins; daughter, Ronda Smith; and great-grandson, Timothy Cain.  Joan is survived by her daughters, Linda (Carroll) Sanders of Carlisle, Patsy (the late Carroll Ray) Kirkendall of Russellville, Betty (David) Crain of Stuttgart; son-in-law, Leo Smith of Humphrey; ten grandchildren, Jim (Fawnita) Sanders, Ray (Elaine) Kirkendall, Phillip (Marsha) Watkins, David (Stephanie) Sanders, David Smith, Sam (Mandy) Kirkendall, Dora (James) Cain, Larry Kirkendall, Sondra Crain, and Alex Crain; eighteen great grandchildren, Christopher Hayes, Nathaniel (Allison) Sanders, Tyler, Drew and Tessa Sanders, Crystal and Adam Valdez, Jonathan, Amanda and Elizabeth Kirkendall, Josh, Stephen and Stephanie Watkins, Draven Dobson, Hunter Smith, Nathan, Jacob and Sarah Cain; grandkids at heart, Laura White, Faith Matos, Jamie and Kim Browning, Chris White, Candy, Lynn, Madalyn, Lynn, Raegan and Alyssa Mills and well as many others.  


Joan was devoted to her family.  She loved to crochet and especially loved  to make special items for her family.  Granny Jo, as she was affectionately known by many, loved to eat catfish and awaited the day that her late husband would fry her some in Heaven.  Granny Jo always opened her home and arms to anyone she met. She made a lasting impression on all who were around her.  


Joan was a faithful member of Stuttgart Holiness Church.  She was also the last  founding member where she would have been honored for her dedication in their homecoming service on May 6.   


Visitation will be Friday, March 24 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at Stuttgart Holiness Church 1002 S. Prairie Street Stuttgart, Arkansas 72160. Funeral Service will be Saturday, March 25, 10:00 AM at the church. Bro. Lloyd Allen Duvall and Bro. James Cain will be officiating. Interment will follow at Bayless Cemetery in Humphrey.
